“You
can’t use up creativity.
The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou

We were recently asked to define ourselves as a writer;
our goals and vision, our identity and how we plan to reach out to our intended
audience, for my ongoing English course. Creativity has always been my passion,
my first love. It was, to be cliché, love at first sight. I was smitten by the
end of my first art class, my first dance class, and my first writing class.
Throughout my life, whenever a creative experience has come across my path, it
has changed my life for the better. After doing copy writing for a major
advertising firm and starting my own blog, I fell in love with creative writing
all over again and made a long overdue decision: to find a degree plan that
would enhance my love for creativity. I
returned to school in 2012 to complete my Bachelors in Creative Writing with a
minor in Graphic Design (a degree plan right up my alley!) in 2012, and am
scheduled to complete my last courses by June 2014 (woohoo!!!).
Whenever I consider what kind of writer I want to be, I
see myself as a freelance writer and a blogger. Besides copy writing and
blogging, I have always leaned towards romance and chick-lit novels, hoping to
pull from my real-life experiences to write emotionally charged, sarcastic and
relatable stories about life, love and the craziness of it all. In my stories,
I try to focus on creating a story, setting and cast of characters that the
reader can get lost in. As with many writers, I hope to create the kind of
story that you just can’t stand to put down. Utilizing emotions, strong
language, descriptive details and riveting storylines, my short stories range in
subject matter from love and growing up to the trials and tribulations that
life can throw at you, and strive to pull the reader in within the first few
pages.
I try
to carry this same energy, emotion, sarcasm and description over to my blog,
The Rowdy Girl’s Guide, where I discuss a wide variety of subject matters,
including crazy homemade recipes, day-trips on a dime and my views and tips on
living life to the fullest while keeping the love alive in your relationship. Besides
my blog, I also frequent sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and I plan to
launch a website dedicated to sharing my writing and graphic design creations
with the world!
Currently,
I am working on a novel chronicling my relationship with my high-school
sweetheart-hubby, and the crazy journey we have been on for the past 14 years. The
novel, a total labor of love for me, combines my collection of short stories
about different stages in our relationship – some funny, some emotional, some
amazing – into one just-can’t-put-it-down story. I am excited to share the
journey we have been on and to write about something that I am so passionate
about, and hope to complete the novel by early 2014. My goal is to submit my
complete novel to the same publishers that work with authors such as Nicholas
Sparks and Candace Bushnell: Warner Books and HarperCollins, as well as
submitting individual short stories from the novel to magazines such as Glamour
and Cosmopolitan, which would easily reach a wide range of my target audience.
I am so
excited to be on this journey of becoming a writer and artist, and am looking
forward to sharing more of my creations and my journey on my blog and, soon, on
my website!
Peace
& Love
