Pancakes - A Short Story About Young Love, with A Twist of Fate.

Pancakes

The cold air stung my cheeks as I sat next to Miley in our frozen lawn chairs by the side of the track. Our breath left little trails of steam above our heads as we chatted in the dark, the night sky spread above us like a diamond studded quilt. It was a beautiful night. Freezing but beautiful. Miley carried on about her date with Travis and I nodded, pretending to follow along as my mind wandered. Michael should have been here 2 hours ago, and though I kept a smile on my face and shrugged it off as nothing, inside I was disappointed. I mean, the plans had been last minute, but after the smile on his face when I told him I would be able to hang out with him all night because of the fundraiser, I couldn’t believe he had stood me up. I had called his house so many times I was sure he thought I was crazy by now. So much for that fantasy, I mused, Michael’s dimpled grin drifting through my mind. I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly it was about him, I just knew I loved him. Of course I hadn’t shared that detail with him yet. How could I tell my best friend I was in love with him? After his no-show tonight, I felt relieved I hadn’t spilled my guts about my feelings yet. Maybe it was better off this way. I looked up just in time to notice Miley staring at me. “Right?” she asked, an inquisitive look on her face. Shit. Right what? I thought, regretting the fact that I hadn’t been paying attention for the last 10 minutes. I shook my head, my cheeks flushing slightly with embarrassment, “I’m sorry Miles. I spaced out. What did you say?”

“Seriously Kay? You’ve gotta let it go. He’ll be here. Or he won’t. What does it matter?” she asked, looking hurt. My shoulders fell as I looked at her in the darkness. “I’m sorry. I’m a total ditz and I should’ve been listening. So tell me…again…because I suck. How’d it go with Trav?” I plastered a huge smile on my face and leaned in to Miley, focusing on her words and pushing Michael from my mind.

***

This cannot be happening, Michael thought as he hid behind the giant bush, waiting for the cop car to pass by. Damn town curfew he thought as he glanced at his watch, gritting his teeth as he noticed the time. It was past 2am. She was probably asleep. Either that or she went home because you didn’t show up asshole, he thought, feeling his heart sink. When Kaydie had approached him about the fundraiser tonight, he couldn’t believe his good luck. Ever since the prom he had wanted to pull her aside, or send her a note, or scream from the rooftops how head-over-heels he was for her. Tonight was the perfect opportunity. She was spending the night in a tiny tent with Miley for the overnight fundraiser, and he had promised he’d be there by midnight. Two hours later he was finally able to tiptoe his way out the door past his snoring father and into the night.

He ran, ignoring his burning lungs and his wobbling legs. He had to get there. He had promised her, and he would not break his promise, no matter how late he was. Besides, if he didn’t show up at all tonight she would kick his ass at school on Monday, and she had a lot of spunk for such a skinny girl. He chuckled then as he sprinted, thinking about her slender frame with her “chicken legs” as she always called them. She was “too skinny” she always said with that indubitable look on her face. He thought she was crazy. And perfect. He didn’t know what it was about her, but he knew he loved her. She was the first girl he ever loved, and he had known it from the first moment he saw her walk into class. Before even saying hello, he knew she would be his wife someday. Now he just had to make sure he made it to that track sometime this century, and that she didn’t kill him when he finally got there. Ducking quickly behind a sign, Michael jogged in placed until the cop car slid past him and turned down a side street. Taking a deep breath, Michael darted back out onto the sidewalk and ran. He could see the faint lights surrounding the track in the distance and his determination pumped energy into his weary muscles, urging him on. Kaydie’s face danced through his thoughts and he smiled. Soon enough you’ll be mine, he thought zipping his hoodie up against the chill in the air, a smile on his lips as he ran towards his future.

“Ummm…scrambled eggs and white toast with a side of homefries. Oooo and a coffee.” Miley recited, handing the menu back to the grumpy waitress and beaming a huge grin at her. “And you?” the waitress asked, glaring at me impatiently. Geez. Lighten up, I thought as I scanned the menu, indecisive as usual. “Hmmm…uuuuhhhh…pancakes please. With extra syrup. And a chocolate milk.” I said, satisfied with my choice, and handed my menu over. The waitress rolled her eyes and managed an annoyed, obviously forced smile before sauntering off with our order.

“Rough night I guess.” I said, raising my eyebrow in the direction of the waitress. Miley stifled a giggle as the waitress returned with our drinks, dropping them on the table without straws and spilling half of my milk. Denny’s had been me and Miley’s hangout since freshman year, and we had snuck out of our tent and past the student supervisor, Darren, a half hour ago to walk up the hill to Denny’s to unthaw after sitting outside all night for the relay. My disappointment over Michael’s no show still hung in my mind, but I looked around, enjoying the freedom of being 17 and in Denny’s at 3am. My parents never let me do stuff like this, especially with my 10pm curfew. They treated me like a child with their never-ending rules and judgments, so tonight was like a treat for me, a night where I actually felt like a senior in high school should. The dingy restaurant was filled with drunken strangers loudly discussing their night and annoyed waitresses fighting to get through the throngs of people in the restaurant, and a group of people stood irritated at the front, waiting for a table to open up somewhere. Miley and I scanned the room, pointing out this hot guy and that and laughing about the drunken morons falling all over themselves. Our waitress returned, slinging our steaming plates onto the table and placing a thimble-sized bowl of syrup next to me. “Ummm extra……..syrup” I attempted as she whirled around and took off across the restaurant with a huff. “Or not.” I muttered, pouring the trickle of syrup onto my pancakes over the melted butter. Mushing the syrup around and spearing a chunk of pancakes with my fork, I looked up as Miley began to giggle about something Travis had told her the night before when a familiar, dimpled grin caught my attention. At the front door, squeezing his way through the people crammed in, was Michael. Miley stopped mid-story, a confused look on her face, and spun around in her seat. Her eyes grew wide as Michael drew closer and plopped down in the booth beside her, his eyes locked with mine.

“I told you I’d be here.” He said simply, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. The look on his face spoke volumes, and I suddenly felt as if I was exactly where I need to be. Everything happens for a reason, I thought, as the butterflies in my stomach multiplied and I stared at him, speechless. Michael’s actions spoke louder than words ever could, and I knew in that moment that he felt the same as I did. Nervousness gave way to a feeling of complete and utter contentment, and I giggled like a schoolgirl as Michael fed me pancakes and transformed from best friend to love of my life right before my eyes.

You never forget that very first kiss...a tantalizing short story to keep you warm on this icy day

You Moved First
You never forget that very first kiss......

My eyes struggle to adjust to the early morning sunlight flooding the tent as I become acutely aware of a muscular arm beneath my neck. My mind races as I lift my gaze and we lock eyes, a small grin on your lips. The overnight relay, I remember as the previous night comes flooding back.
“Sleep well?” you whisper quietly. I open my mouth to answer, but nothing comes out. You’re still here and my brain can’t seem to comprehend that fact this early in the morning. I nod, embarrassed by my inevitable bed head, and praying that I didn’t drool on you profusely while I slept. Your arm tightens and you pull me closer so we’re face-to-face, your green eyes searching mine. We’ve played this cat-and-mouse game for so long, and now you’re in my tent, looking at me like I always dreamed you would. Am I still dreaming? I wonder as your fingers tangle themselves in my hair.
Our faces are so close our noses almost touch, and I’m sure you can hear my heart pounding behind my ribcage. Your fingers are in my hair and entwined with mine, and your lips are so close. I wonder what you taste like, but I refuse to be the first one to move. The scent of you fills my senses and suddenly my lips are on yours. We part and I’m breathless.
“You moved first.” You say with a complacent grin before covering your lips with mine again.

Romance, Chick-Lit and Blogging, Oh My! - Who I Am As A Writer

“You can’t use up creativity.
The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou

We were recently asked to define ourselves as a writer; our goals and vision, our identity and how we plan to reach out to our intended audience, for my ongoing English course. Creativity has always been my passion, my first love. It was, to be cliché, love at first sight. I was smitten by the end of my first art class, my first dance class, and my first writing class. Throughout my life, whenever a creative experience has come across my path, it has changed my life for the better. After doing copy writing for a major advertising firm and starting my own blog, I fell in love with creative writing all over again and made a long overdue decision: to find a degree plan that would enhance my love for creativity.  I returned to school in 2012 to complete my Bachelors in Creative Writing with a minor in Graphic Design (a degree plan right up my alley!) in 2012, and am scheduled to complete my last courses by June 2014 (woohoo!!!).
Whenever I consider what kind of writer I want to be, I see myself as a freelance writer and a blogger. Besides copy writing and blogging, I have always leaned towards romance and chick-lit novels, hoping to pull from my real-life experiences to write emotionally charged, sarcastic and relatable stories about life, love and the craziness of it all. In my stories, I try to focus on creating a story, setting and cast of characters that the reader can get lost in. As with many writers, I hope to create the kind of story that you just can’t stand to put down. Utilizing emotions, strong language, descriptive details and riveting storylines, my short stories range in subject matter from love and growing up to the trials and tribulations that life can throw at you, and strive to pull the reader in within the first few pages.
I try to carry this same energy, emotion, sarcasm and description over to my blog, The Rowdy Girl’s Guide, where I discuss a wide variety of subject matters, including crazy homemade recipes, day-trips on a dime and my views and tips on living life to the fullest while keeping the love alive in your relationship. Besides my blog, I also frequent sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and I plan to launch a website dedicated to sharing my writing and graphic design creations with the world!
Currently, I am working on a novel chronicling my relationship with my high-school sweetheart-hubby, and the crazy journey we have been on for the past 14 years. The novel, a total labor of love for me, combines my collection of short stories about different stages in our relationship – some funny, some emotional, some amazing – into one just-can’t-put-it-down story. I am excited to share the journey we have been on and to write about something that I am so passionate about, and hope to complete the novel by early 2014. My goal is to submit my complete novel to the same publishers that work with authors such as Nicholas Sparks and Candace Bushnell: Warner Books and HarperCollins, as well as submitting individual short stories from the novel to magazines such as Glamour and Cosmopolitan, which would easily reach a wide range of my target audience.
I am so excited to be on this journey of becoming a writer and artist, and am looking forward to sharing more of my creations and my journey on my blog and, soon, on my website!

Adventures in Snow Removal...and Recipes to Keep You Cozy.

Front yard...winter is definitely here!!!
A winter wonderland.

A beautiful frozen morning after the storm.
We awoke this morning to far more snow than was predicted last night before bed. This is the first season for my hubby's landscaping business, Guite Property Services, and our first year doing snow removal, so every trip out is an adventure!! Today was our first morning doing snow removal before my hubby had to go to his day job, and instead of the predicted 4"-8", we awoke to over a foot of white powder covering our yard. You know you got a good storm when you open your front door and the snow is halfway up the glass!!
.
I think we got a little snow...

We suited up in our snow gear (aka as many layers as we could comfortably cram under our winter jacket and snow pants) and headed out to tackle the driveway and find our cars.

Whoooaaa...huge snow bank...

...Oh wait...that's my car! LOL!
We made it out of the driveway in record time and quickly got into a routine: he using the snow blower, me helping him load and unload and using the shovel to trim down the snowbanks as he started, since they were taller than the snow blower! If there's one thing I can say, we are one helluva team!!

We got all our clients done by 8am and zipped home so hubby could shower, gussy himself up and head to work for the day, while I made him some homemade breakfast goodness. For a huge storm, with far more snow than we were planning on, and a handful of additional new clients as of last night, today went so smoothly!! It was a lot of work, but well worth it, and we accomplished it together!

Live in a crazy snowy area too? Share your pics or stories about digging out after the storm!

Easy & Delicious Recipes to Keep you Cozy

My fave 3 keep-you-cozy recipes, perfect for a chilly, Winter day. Easy, quick and deeeelicious!

Homemade Fried Dough
So simple and easy, you'll never need to hit up the fair for fried dough again!

You'll need:

1 bag of white pizza dough (Portland Pie Company dough is amazingly good for this! Check your local Hannaford within Maine)
1/2 cup - 1 cup of vegetable or canola oil
Large wok or deep pan
1 Stick of butter
Powdered Sugar
Cinnamon

Heat oil in pan or wok on stovetop on med-high heat. Divide your dough into 4-6 sections and form into a small pizza shapes. Add one piece of dough at a time and deep fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown, flipping carefully with tongs halfway through.

Drain on paper towels and rub with stick of butter, then add powdered sugar and cinnamon to taste. Yummm!!!

Dark Chocolate Mocha Bliss
Satisfy your chocolate craving and your need for caffeine with this indulgent drink.

You'll need:

1 packet of dark chocolate hot cocoa mix
1 k-cup (your fave flavor!)
Splash of milk
Bailey's Irish Cream or Vanilla Vodka

Empty packet of cocoa mix into good size mug. Brew your choice of K-Cup over the mix and stir well. Add a splash of milk and, if you're feeling feisty, a little splash of Bailey's Irish Cream or Vanilla Vodka for a kick.

Delicious, easy and perfect for a night in, or as an appetizer for your upcoming holiday party!

You'll need:

1 packet of Wholly' Guacamole
1 bag of tortilla scoops or bite-size rounds
1 bag Gorton's Classic Grilled Shrimp (usually found at Shaw's)

Prepare the shrimp according to the packet directions.

Assemble tostadas by placing the mini tortillas on a serving platter in a single layer and dividing the guacamole among them.

Top each mini tortilla with one prepared shrimp (remove the tails before placing on each chip to make ti easier and less messy to eat!)

Try some variations of this recipe by using Wholly Guacamole's spicy Guac, or even add a sprinkle of shredded cheddar before topping each tortilla with a shrimp.

The first official release of my short fiction story: The Phone Number

The Phone Number
My heart skipped a beat when I saw him strutting down the hall. There was nothing else to call it but strutting. He had an air about him like he owned the world, that hallway and everyone who dared to walk down it around him. The half grin on his face showcased his dimples and hinted at a bad-boy attitude behind his mischievous eyes. The few girls that accompanied him every day, which I enjoyed referring to as his Freshman Fan Club, surrounded him in a cloud of giggles and longing stares, all waiting for the usual smile and wink before he headed into the classroom. Though I always snickered as his fan club scurried by, all whispering excitedly about his shirt or cologne or other minute detail they obsessed about after his departure, secretly I was intrigued. While I was usually never drawn in by someone so cocky, I found myself watching him, wondering what it was like to possess that much confidence.
I stood after his fan club passed, hefting my pile of books into my arms and weaving my way through the crowded classroom to my desk in the back of the room. Dropping my books on my desk with a loud thud, I looked up and noticed him staring at me and quickly looked away, fumbling to log into my computer so I had something else to focus on. His winks wouldn’t win me over. I’m not that naïve I thought stubbornly as I typed in my password wrong. Twice. Shit.
Ms. Lane strode to the front of the classroom and began instructing us on a new process in Illustrator, and I squinted my eyes, determined to keep my attention solely on what she was saying. Suddenly my computer dinged loudly and a little message box popped up in the bottom of my screen. I jumped, almost falling out of my chair, and grinned quickly at Ms. Lane, “Sorry. I clicked the wrong place.” I blurted nervously as I heard snickering from across the room. Snapping my head up, I noticed him stifling a laugh and peering at me from his desk on the opposite side of the classroom. Narrowing my eyes, I shot him my best evil eye and glanced at my screen. The little box flashed urgently in the bottom corner, the messenger impatient.
Hi. ;)
Oh god. He wrote to me. My mind stopped and I could feel my facial expression softening. Determined to maintain my air of indifference, I closed the message box and flipped open my textbook, staring at the page as if it were the most interesting thing I had ever seen. My computer dinged again, seemingly even louder than the first time, and Ms. Lane stopped midsentence, shooting me a narrow-eyed look.
“Is there something you need?” she inquired sharply, looking annoyed.
“No. I’m so sorry. This computer…” I trailed off, clicking around on my screen like I was lost and hoping the people in the row behind me wouldn’t give me away. Another message box sat blinking in the bottom corner.
Hi. ;) What’s up?
This guy was impossible. Ms. Lane began talking again, turning away to face the board as I typed as quietly as possible. Two could play this game.
Hi. :)
His computer dinged and I laughed under my breath, pretending to be working on a project as Ms. Lane’s eyes scanned the room for the offender. As I muted my computer I saw him reach down and do the same, and Ms. Lane muttered something about detention and carried on with her lesson, turning to write on the whiteboard behind her.
So, what’s up?
I wracked my brain, trying to come up with something witty and indifferent to write back.
Nothin. Bored.
Wow. Really blew him away with that amazing response I thought, silently cursing myself for lacking any game whatsoever and trying to catch what Ms. Lane was discussing now.
Me too. We should hang out sometime. You should call me.
Wait. Had I stepped into some twilight zone? My lame response inspired him to want to chat and hang out more? This had to be some kind of prank. Before I could process any more, my screen started to blink again, another message waiting at the bottom of my screen. I looked up and he was watching me from his seat, that cocky half-grin settled on his lips again.
Write down your number and give it to me at the end of class.
Suddenly a light-bulb came on and a smile slowly spread across my face like the Grinch. Oh, I could give him my phone number. I mean, he was obviously so suave that he deserved it, right, so why not? Smirking, I ripped a half sheet of paper from my notebook and scribbled my name then, carefully, underneath: 1-800-you-wish. I quickly folded up the piece of paper, stifling full on laughter at this point, and jumped up as the end-of class bell rang loudly. Slipping past him I sauntered slowly down the hall with a smirk on my face, knowing I had won. He came up beside me and I plastered a smile on my face and handed him the folded up piece of paper.

“Can’t wait to hear from you.” I said as I slid the piece of paper into his palm, purposely allowing my fingers to linger on his for a few extra moments. His half-grin reappeared and he looked pleased with himself as he stood there, watching me strut away down the hall.

Who says you have to feel guilty for indulging? Back by popular demand: Skinny Tropical Pudding Cups!

Back by popular demand, just in time for the holiday season and all those holiday parties,Skinny Tropical Pudding Cups: the most amazingly delicious dessert that won't leave you feeling guilty. :) They taste like creamy cheesecake infused with rum and coconut, are topped with decadent crushed cookie...and only have 75 calories per serving?

Ummm...yeah. They're practically the perfect food. They're sweet, crunchy, tart and tropical, take like 5 minutes to whip up and have only 75 freakin' calories per serving!!! So yeah, I said practically perfect!!! Honestly, the only thing that could make them more perfect is if they made themselves! With today's snowy, grey, stay-bundled-up-inside kinda weather, I thought it would be the perfect day to unleash this decadent, tropical dessert recipe into your little brains.

I first found the recipe on the Eat Yourself Skinny blog when researching low fat and low calorie desserts for Thanksgiving and thought, "God, that looks and sounds amazing!", then filed the recipe away and promptly forgot about it. When I came across it this morning, I figured it was a sign.

It was so easy to throw together I almost forgot I was cooking. Seriously. This is the kind of dessert you make that convinces people that you spent the entire day preparing it (and that they just blew their entire day's worth of calories and fat eating it) but it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and is fat free and low calorie!

Ok...okaaaaay...get to the part where I tell you how to make it already, right?

Skinny Tropical Pudding Cups

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Fat-Free Milk (or whatever kind is your fave)
1 small packet of Sugar-Free, Fat-Free Cheesecake* instant pudding mix
1 tsp Coconut extract
1/2 tsp Rum extract
2 tbsp Lime juice
1/2 cup crushed pineapple, not drained
1 cup Fat-Free Whipped Topping
2 White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies, crushed

Make It Up:

Whisk milk and pudding mix together in a large bowl until smooth. Add the Coconut and Rum extracts, lime juice and crushed pineapple (not drained) and stir well. Carefully fold in the whipped topping and mix until smooth and a uniform color.

Divide the mixture into 8 small cups, cover and refridgerate for at least 30 minutes. (If your cups do not have individual containers, try placing the cups on a cookie sheet and using one large sheet of Press N" Seal to cover them quickly and easily!)

Serve well-chilled with a sprinkle of crushed cookie to top each cup. Kick back, relax and enjoy your mini tropical vacation!!

*The original recipe called for Sugar-Free, Fat-Free Vanilla pudding, but I got the itch to tweak the recipe (as I always do!!!) and decided to sub in Sugar-Free, Fat-Free Cheesecake pudding instead. I looooved the results. I thought it gave it a slightly creamier taste and texture, not to mention my love for cheesecake. Feel free to sub in whatever pudding flavors you think might enhance the tropical goodness of this decadent dessert. White Chocolate, Vanilla, Butterscotch, Cheesecake...the sky's the limit, just make sure it's instant! The more you try out...the more you get to sample! ;)

Day Trip on a Dime: Getting into the Christmas Spirit in Boston!

Boston skyline from North End Marina.
These days, it's tough to find the money to get away from it all, especially during the hustle-and-bustle of the holiday season. My hubby and I both love to travel, and someday hope to make it to Italy and France, but for now, we satisfy our traveling needs by picking nearby places to explore together. We always make sure to travel with our survival kit (aka water bottle, Mio, snacks and IBprufen!) so we save money on little things, like bottled water at the store or small snacks if we're munchy. We have always enjoyed going to Boston around Christmastime to take in the lights, people-watch, reconnect and to kick our butts into holiday-spirit mode, and this year, budget or not, we were going!!

We decided to take the Downeaster train out of Portland (about an hour and a half away from our house) rather than driving directly into Boston and having to pay to park all day, plus pay for gas and tolls roundtrip. Our train tickets (with our AAA discount) came out to a fabulous $74, and we got to sit and hang out on the ride down and the ride back...way cheaper and much more relaxing than swearing at drivers and getting stuck in insane traffic for the 3+ hour drive, and with free Wi-fi too!

Once in Boston, we usually have a routine: buy our subway pass (Charlie card), walk around at the huge Copley Mall, then head over to Quincy Market to binge on Boston Chowder and Regina Pizzeria. This year, we decided to add a little adventure to our visit and hit up Chinatown and the theatre district, where we stumbled upon Boston Commons. The theatre district was interesting and full of gorgeous architecture, old theatres and (as my husband decided) "the best Chinese dumplings ever!"

Majestic Theatre

Paramount Theatre
After walking through Chinatown and Boston Commons, we decided to head over to walk by the Boston Library and through the Copley Plaza Mall.

Once in Copley Plaza, we came across a Starbucks and decided to walk and recaffeinate as we took in the views, the people and the holiday spirit! May I just say, Salted Caramel Mocha...mmmm!!!

Huge Christmas ornaments suspended from the ceiling in Copley!

Gorgeous fountain in the center of Copley

Finally time for some grub (and ready to plant my buns somewhere for a bit!!) we rode the T to Government Center, where Fanueil Hall, Quincy Market and the huge Boston Christmas tree are!

After an amazingly relaxing day in Beantown, I'm ready to tackle Christmas head-on!!!

Train Tickets = $76
Food & Coffee = $60
A worry-free, relaxing day in Boston on a budget = Priceless!

What day trips on a dime do you plan? Where's your go-to destination when you just gotta get away?

On this #GivingTuesday, How 'bout a PRE-New Year's Resolution?!

Don't be that guy...

After learning about the first ever #GivingTuesday Hangout-a-thon on Google+, which gathers people together for 1 day in an all out, online hangout-a-thon to provide an opportunity for awesome non-profits to get much-needed donations from people just like you, I wanted to find a way to carry on the #GivingTuesday vibe and pay-it-forward during the holiday season. I mean, every year it's the same tradition: attempt to fight through the holiday crowds at the malls and stores to buy a bunch of material stuff that you - and others - probably don't need, spend small fortune on gifts to make the season "merry and bright", have small coronary when your credit card statement finally arrives, resolve like crazy for the upcoming new year to make this next year the "best one ever!!!"...right? And while I am always one for creating a long list of resolutions come January 1st, I thought, why not make a Pre-New Year's resolution this year?

Yeah, that's right, I said PRE-New Year's resolution, as in right now, today! I know, I know, the holidays are all about gifts and sales and running from gathering to gathering - except that the holidays are supposed to be about seeing the ones you love, enjoying the holidays together, giving back to those less fortunate, and honoring the religious event that you believe in. These days, we take off shopping on Thanksgiving day and usually don't stop to breathe until the holiday is done, our wallets empty, stomachs bursting and holiday spirits trampled by grumpy holiday shoppers and overfilled schedules.

So, this "holiday season", while gearing up for whatever holiday makes you merry, why not take a few minutes to resolve to be better, now, BEFORE the new year!? No, I don't mean resolving to drop 20lbs by December 31st or jumping on the next health-food bandwagon, I mean resolving to be a happier, healthier, less-stressed version of you. Open doors for people, be grateful for all you do have while buying more stuff you don't need, give back to one of the great organizations featured on #GivingTuesday's Hangout-a-thon (the list is endless!!) or even a local charity of choice, SMILE (seriously people, there are too many Scrooges this time of year. Cracking a smile won't kill you!) and resolve to do something good for you - add in some exercise once a day, cram in some more veggies and chug your water, just show your body some love while you run around crazy preparing for the holidays!

I promise, once the holiday season becomes about getting prepared AND giving back (to yourself and others) you'll be much happier, healthier and ready to tackle the season!

My 5 Pre-New Year's Resolutions:

1. Pick a local charity to donate to: Local food shelter and humane society!! :) Yay!

2. Add in daily meditation to center, focus and relax myself before starting my day

3. Put a reasonable limit on holiday spending to nix post-holiday financial distress

4. Smile, smile, smile and repeat: I have LOTS to be grateful for and happy about!

5. Keep a positive mentality when out in the crazy holiday crowds - Scrooge is NOT attractive, and neither is being a total bitch!!!

So, what Pre-New Year's resolutions could you choose to make you - and your holiday season shine? How can you pay-it-forward and give back on this #GivingTuesday and throughout the holiday season to make the season bright for someone else too?

Make it merry!
